Dots

Headache

Ear acupressure may help relieve pain and tension around the body, including symptoms of headache.  Stimulating pressure points on the ears, and other areas may provide migraine relief.  For severe migraines it is advisable to use the dot·on protocol preventatively rather than wait for a severe migraine to take hold.

Application:

For best results use one protocol at a time to give the body a clear message.

Ideally use on one ear and when removing the beads after 5 to 7 days apply to the other ear.  This ensures that the ear beads do not cause irritation to the skin (which can happen with continuous use over a given point).

Press the beads for 30 to 60 seconds several times a day to stimulate the point.

What the points do:

Shen Men: considered a Master Point, it is used with many other ear points for a variety of reasons including anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, pain, addiction and detoxification.  Some acupuncture practitioners describe Shen Men as one of the most calming and relaxing ear point and use it with all ear point treatments!

Occiput: this point is used in cases of headaches in the back of the head

Forehead: this point is used in cases of headaches where the pain concentrates on the forehead

Sun: this point is ssociated to the temporal bone area and is useful for headaches in the temples.

Analgesia: ear point is used for pain relief of a variety of conditions.

Thalamus: ear point is used for many types of acute or chronic pain disorders.

You will often find that points around the occiput, forehead or thalamus areas of the ear will be tender of pressure and this can be a good way to choose what points are best to use for you.
